  i don't care if people troll virgil, because i've seen all of virgil van dijk, i've seen his days, his golden era, absolute god level defender, impossible to get past, i remember when hwang hee chan did that, how everybody was counting the days virgil was undeated, then neymar went past him once, just imagine how good you have to be, so that when someone just GETS PAST YOU, they start celebrating your defeat. not even annihilating you, just gets past(hwang annihilated him though), not like boateng destroyer by messi or something like that. now he has turned old, obviously he's gonna get slow(but virgil isn't really slow, he's very fast till now at 35), but i agree his defending feels rusty for some reason, but he doesn't deserve the troll man, come on. he has entertained all the football fans for so long. name me 5 defenders in last 10 years who were as good as of virgil van dijk's equal level? nobody even comes close. i'm a madrid fan, but i don't really rate ramos very highly, because he wasn't a pure defender, kind of an extra frontman or attacking kind of goalscoring defender known for fouling and red cards. i'm talking about low block class defending, like sense, positioning and ball winning, virgil was wayy wayyyyyy better than the rest (varane's defending sense was very close to virgil and varane was faster too, but varane wasn't as strong as van dijk). so, the main thing is, please let the man enjoy the last days of him at liverpool, he's one of the greatest defender the earth has ever seen, we are not getting another defensive beast like virgil anytime soon. please don't troll him guys, nobody deserves disrespect after a high quality service service that lasted this damn long. [the only defenders that comes to my mind when talking about van dijk level defensive abilities are joao miranda and thiago silva, tbh miranda is the best 1v1 defender i've even seen]

  The worst part of it for me is that these are the absolute BASICS of defending that I was taught as a kid growing up in the 90's... the half-turned body position, guiding players onto their weaker foot, and staying on your feet was drilled into me by my coaches from the age of 8 until I was released at 16 - only go to ground if you are 100% certain you're going to win the ball without hitting the man. Sometime in the 2000's I feel like that stopped being taught when the focus shifted to defenders, and particularly centre backs, being ball players

  I am a City fan &nbsp;BTW.<br><br>Virgil gets blamed for every defensive mistake but he never do any mistake leading to a goal/possession loss. Konate has been terrible for the entire season so Virgil has to cover the whole backline because of Konate and Kerkez playing dreadfully for the entire season.

  An ex Galatasaray coach said that he once went to see Celtic to transfer Jason Denayer. He said that during that game Van Dijk had impressed him so much that he wanted to transfer him instead, by then it was too late to transfer Van Dijk as he was on his way to Southampton. Galatasaray transferred Denayer
