One of the coolest things about “Walking in Memphis” is that the people Marc Cohn mentions are real people and the experiences were based on his actual trip to Memphis. “Reverend Green” is Al Green, the legendary R&B/soul singer who became a gospel preacher—definitely worth going down that rabbit hole! And Muriel Wilkins was a real gospel singer and piano player whom Cohn met at the Hollywood Café in Mississippi. Childhood friends of my turned an old store into a nightclub called The Hollywood (located in Hollywood MS). Ms Muriel was my piano teacher in grammar school.

A couple of songs that you may enjoy by Marc Cohn are: True Companion, I Lost You In The Canyon, and Rest For The Weary. The storytelling in his songs reminds me of Bruce Hornsby in a way.

Wow, this time a year ago I was actually walking in Memphis. Huge Elvis fan here from the UK and made it to Memphis 🥳🥳 Beale St, Sun Studios, Graceland to name a few and sat on that same boat from this video. This song sure hits different now 💙

You would get it if you have ever been to Memphis. At the beginning, they showed some records that’s where Elvis recorded and of course they touched on Graceland where his home is and Beale Street, which is the popular street for nightlife in Memphis.
