Most of these couples say they want a new experience in another country but then, they still expect to have all the same "home" amenities. I find that strange but not surprising.

As an American, I got second-hand embarrassment watching this. Especially watching the first family.  So entitled, rude, and completely out of touch with the reality of living in Japan.

U.S. military bases in Japan are usually located in suburban areas away from city centers, where the normal rent levels are relatively low. However, houses renovated for U.S. military personnel are often built differently from typical Japanese homes, so their rents are usually set higher than the local market rate.<br><br>For example, while an ordinary Japanese house may have multiple toilets, it typically has only one bathroom. Kitchens generally have a fish grill but no built-in oven. Many microwave ovens sold in Japan come with oven functions, so buying one is usually not a problem, but they aren’t large enough to fit a whole turkey. Newer houses often come with dishwashers, but they are usually the drawer-type with limited capacity.<br><br>There are many other differences as well, but if you want an American-style home in Japan, you need to expect higher rent and it’s unrealistic to expect the same amount of space you would find in the U.S.
