  I live in EU. I try not to buy fast fashion things because i hate them. The issue is that even the price is not an indication of sort anymore. I wish there was a law like for house appliances that grades clothes (like sticking on the tag &nbsp;an A, B, C mark on the tag based on how responsible and quality it was produced)<br><br>Also there’s polyester and other plastics literally in everything!

  I think the fundamental issue is also that price no longer equates to quality. You can spend $100 on a T-shirt, but that doesn&apos;t mean it&apos;s actually made better or more responsibly than the equivalent one a quarter of the price from a &apos;fast fashion&apos; retailer. Price is no longer a heuristic for quality – buying expensive doesn&apos;t mean buying to last, necessarily.

  I dropped out of my fashion degree from UAL for many reasons, one of the main ones is that I was becoming increasingly disillusioned with the current state of the fashion industry.<br><br>We talk about all these topics in class. My tutors spent several decades in the industry and made their wealth in fashion. My classmates are all from well off backgrounds that can afford them tertiary education. At least 2 girls in that class walked in Paris for fashion week.<br><br>Many discussions took place where we discussed what we wanted to do to subvert and go against the current &quot;normality&quot; in the industry. That was until we were assigned a project to make our own business, this is when I saw people and their values crumble when they were tested.<br><br>The numbers don&apos;t lie. Fashion minus exploitation of any kind is astronomical to the point of being unreasonable. And for a business to suceed, you need consistent, steady cash flow. A truly ethical fashion business without an established name, reputation or following, will disappear as quickly as it appears.<br><br>This part was briefly acknowledged and quickly moved on by my tutors. No further exploration in the topic, probably because it gets too political, economical, and uncomfortable to talk about the social issues tied to it.<br><br>To me, it was very much a &apos;business as usual&apos; attitude

Funny how that all instantly went away after 2020 when Covid had us all locked inside where all we could do was buy stuff and have it delivered to spark joy in our lives.Ever since it has been &quot;inflation sucks but I&apos;m just gonna keep spending because I&apos;m sad&quot; and &apos;retail therapy&apos;

  On the other hand you could pay 70-90 dollars on a shirt made in the same conditions with the only difference is that the clothiers listened a logo and you pay for that.

  As a beef farmer in Ireland, I feel the food industry has fallen into a similar trap. Everyone expects cheap food nowadays, but not many understand how much goes into getting it there. If every person had to grow or make what they purchased or consume they would probably think twice about it.<br><br>Great video Matt!

  Glad to see you covering this topic. I think the best argument for minimalism is to have one’s eyes open to just how bad consumerism has gotten. Seeing the trend in the last couple of years is worrisome for what is to come in the next few.
