  The people who regret their tattoos should have never been tattooed in the first place. They don’t understand the culture and they went ten toes deep into something they don’t understand.

  But they don’t fade. If your body grows and distorts its shape, so does the tattoo.

  I agree with what the woman (at 22 minutes in) said about choosing tattoos that will represent you at every point in your life. She&apos;s right; most of us will go through many different phases with aesthetics and music tastes and well into our 20&apos;s and beyond. My rule for my own tattoos is that I choose themes that can&apos;t change (such as my Brooklyn Bridge tattoo for my hometown), or things I&apos;ve always loved and always will (like cats). Band names or members are out of the question because I&apos;ve been temporarily obsessed with so many, only to have a new musical hero later. My other rule is no &apos;negative&apos; themes (such as a struggle with my mental health), because I want no painful reminders later. I love all eight of my tattoos, and have gotten almost entirely positive feedback on the five &apos;visible&apos; ones on my arms.

  I think most all of these people regret their tattoos because it became popular to talk about how ugly tattoos are, and manosphere circles made it wide spread for swaths of men to decide that tattoos were an automatic no in consideration for a wife. Prior to that, you wouldn’t find not one person talking like a lot of these people do under the age of 40. I’m a millennial born in 94 and people have always, throughout my 20s and into my 30s, been shocked that I don’t have even one. I can’t even tell you how many of my friends obsessed over getting tattoos and they never heard one negative thing about it from a man or woman until the last 2-3 years or so. <br><br>I have no regrets at all for not doing it. I felt like the odd one out at the time but I knew it wasn’t for me long term even though I love art and even well done tattoos.

  As an old man one of the very few things that I look back at and thank my younger self for, is for never getting a tattoo. I think I entertained the notion once in my twenties. Years later when I saw the movie Watchmen and Dr Manhattan said if he needed to put a symbol on his body let it at least be one he respects. And he burned the symbol for hydrogen onto his forehead. I&apos;ve never seen anything I respect enough to want to permanently print it onto my body. And even when I was younger, a tattoo on a woman was always a red flag and I just never expressed interest and kept it at that.

  I was a pretty solid artist as a kid. People asked me to design tattoos for them and I refused. <br><br>Over time, I eventually disliked everything I ever drew and I refused to mark anyone for life.

  As someone heavily tattoo&apos;d I would also regret having 99% of these tattoos. If you&apos;re gonna cheap out on a tattoo or try get a &quot;deal&quot;, you get what you pay for.

  I got a few home tats when I was 18 - 21. I started again in my 40s, and I now have quite a few tattoos - covered up all but one of my original work, and planning on covering that when I get my chest done. I understand the regret - I feel like you should get them done later than 18. The ideas you like at 18 generally won&apos;t be what you will be happy with later in life. No regrets on anything I have now. Bonus advice &nbsp;- find a really good artist &nbsp;!!!!!!
