I'm amazed that there's a Peter Whalley I've never heard before! Most of his, I've heard several times, as he was one of elite echelon of BBC authors of the golden age of BBC-commissioned drama.
This is the fourth of his 40 BBC radio plays.

A rare illustration of the traumatising experience of generations of people, growing up as an undiagnosed neurodivergent child... or just a 'nerd'.

Brilliant play. Comedy and pathos intertwined. Mothers phone calls were hilarious and i found myself really invested in Nightingale finding his Mrs Nightingale

What a dearing story:) In the States the man would be resentful these days. This fellow kept trying to work on himself. That takes insight and bravery. We all aren’t belles of the ball. Still you root for his success!
My bumper sticker says, I love Nerds.
Self telling to be sure!

I thought I'd heard all of Peter Whalley's radio plays. I was overjoyed to see this one appear on Y.T. it didn't disappoint but I was sad for Lawrence. - So capable and talented, yet so socially inept. We all know at least one Lawrence Nightingale - they're somewhat endearing but very tragic people.
