The lyrics in this game is basically a college level course material. They are not just clever, many lines are references to poems throughout chinese history, and it's worked to tell this story

Listen Not is gorgeous. And yes, it's sad as hell because it's basically a tragic forbidden love story

14:46 This is the second most part I love about this game. Melody alone doesn't do the song justice. Even if you get translation you get at most 50~60%. The last sentence says, please turn around when I walk pass you in the next life.
The love story is not actually with the moon goddess Chang-E, but her handmaid the violet fairy. Zhu-Bajie was a playboy and Navy admiral in celestial court. He once had a crush on moon goddess and tried to woo her but on his way he bumped into violet, who fell in love with him on the first sight. Bajie later was punished for this blunder and banished to mortal realm. He mistakenly got into the womb of a boar and was born a fat and ugly beast. In a village he occupied he fell in love with daughter of a local landlord, Gao CuiLan, who was later scared away by his boar look (he can shape shift into handsome man but fails to keep it at times).
In celestial court when violet heard news Bajie was banished she followed him to the mortal realm, giving up immortality and had to live as a monster spider.
Bajie was recruited into the squad to go west to fetch scripture and on their way he met violet again in her spider form.
Out of the 3 women violet is Bajie's true love but it's a forbidden love as monsters are cursed.
One thing to note is the love story is not in the original novel but rather is a community creation. Probably drew a lot of inspiration from the parody movie A Chinese Odyssey.
This game is a masterpiece and it doesn't need TGA. Rather it's the other way around.

Celestial symphony always gives me goosebumps. Many Asians will recognize the theme.
You need to look at the animation while listening to the theme.

RIP Peter Chen. The singing voice of the Bull Demon King.
That song... and his live performance at the start of the year before his death.
Only a man of his age, who has experienced so much in life, could carry with such gravitas.
That final performance at the start of 2025... seared into my memory forever.
