Don't worry- Dane isn't a villain, and the sword isn't necessarily evil. In the comics, he is The Black Knight, and his family lineage goes back to Arthurian times. The sword, The Ebony Blade, was forged by Merlin, and grants its wielder incredible power, albeit with a curse- the longer they use it, the more blood-thirsty they become.

The person asking Dane if he's sure was supposed to be Blade, the vampire hunter, although given his movie has gone through development hell- and the Eternals didn't do as well as other movies, who knows if they will ever follow up on this scene, or anything else in the movie.

It was so fun to see you thoroughly enjoy this, as the original backlash to its existence was intense. I really enjoyed it myself and I still hold out hope that we might see some of these characters again one day!

IMO, this movie should have been 2 movies. One totally takes placce in the past to introduce us to them, let us get to know them and their family dynamic and facing off against the bad things. But in the end they go their separate ways. Then in the second movie it's the present with some flashbacks to fill in some story points.

Honestly the biggest tragedy of this movie is all the story setup Marvel haven't touch since. Thanos brother, the celestial storyline, FUCKING BLADE!!!

I always dug this movie. I don’t see why it didn’t get as much love as I feel it should. They cancelled the second movie for the Eternals which blows. I still like going back and rewatching this one. I’m glad you enjoyed it. One of the best parts to me is watching Icarus flying into the sun. That totally aligns with the old Greek fable of Icarus flying too close to the sun and his wings melt off and he falls to the sea which is where Icarus Sea comes from.

The Eternals were created by Jack Kirby on his return to Marvel in the late '70s. He had been a stalwart artist and writer for the company that eventually became Marvel since the early 1940s (among other things he was Stan Lee's mentor), but he left the company after some disputes with Stan Lee and went to DC. While there he created a group of beings called The New Gods, including Darkseid. Meanwhile a writer/artist for Marvel named Jim Starlin so liked Kirby's work on The New Gods that he created Thanos with heavy inspiration coming from Darkseid. While Kirby's original run of The Eternals was never very popular and lasted only about 30 issues, other writers have taken up the characters and stories and even eventually retconned Thanos into being an Eternal/Deviant hybrid.

Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun. Classic Greek mythology.
