  We went to Rotterdam 3 times on our last cruise. First time, we went to Keukenhof for the tulip festival (bucket list for me) on a ship excursion. Second time we took the water bus to Kinderdyke to see the windmills. Pick up water bus on the other side of the Erasmusen bridge. Water bus stop is at the end of the route and is directly across the street from the windmills. This was a very inexpensive DYI excursion that only takes about 4 hours. We return to Rotterdam next year for a 2 days. We are considering going to Gouda and Delft. Thanks for the tips on things to do near port.

  I am from Rotterdam. Would love to show you around on your next trip (offer stands for anyone else reading this comment). I agree with the riotous architecture. There's a stunningly beautiful historic palace type structure which survived the german bombing and has been restored. There's several museums each with its own design language/facade, a quasi-natural-beach and park within the city (a real beach too on outskirts reachable by metro), and frankly too many other points of interest to list here. I'd love to help with any info you need.

  What’s interesting to share as well, is that Rotterdam is actually the historical base of Holland America Line. It houses the (old) headquarters and one of the older Rotterdam ships.
