We should be ashamed that it's been 40 years since this song's release and it is as relevant today as it was when it was written.

Honestly, their stuff from the 80s and up to Achtung Baby in the early 90s is almost all pretty great. Their very early stuff - like this one - has a rawness to it which I'm never going to get sick of.

Larry Mullen, Jr is a criminally underrated drummer. His beats are fire and his timing is impeccable.

Bono and Adam were only 22 yrs old and Larry and Edge were 21 when they recorded this song which was anti-war, pro-peace. Pretty fucking powerful. You gotta check out their live performance of New Year’s Day from their Live at Red Rocks video and EP. It’s truly hypnotic and mesmerizing to me. I saw them live in 1984 in SF and it was transformative experience. Their energy could really pull you in and make you feel like you were part of their band or that they were playing for you. Unique.

Fun fact: Larry Mullen (drummer) founded U2. When they first got started and were looking for a record deal, one of the big record companies offered them a mega contract, with the stipulation that they wanted Larry fired and a drummer brought in of their (the record companies) choosing. Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton collectively stood up to them and basically told them to go get bent, the drummer stays and they can keep their record deal. Loyalty….pass it on!

U2 and BB King performing "When Love Comes To Town" is practically a religious experience!

Bloody Sunday, or the Bogside Massacre,[1] was a massacre on 30 January 1972 when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry,[n 1] Northern Ireland. Thirteen men were killed outright and the death of another man four months later was attributed to gunshot injuries from the incident. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers, and some were shot while trying to help the wounded
