The Truth About My Kitchen Reno: Wins, Mistakes, & Everything In Between

Today I’m sharing my kitchen makeover progress, designer paint colors, tile, cabinetry, wallpaper, lighting, ceiling details, and a few renovation lessons I learned along the way. What started as one fairly simple idea—adding a built-in hutch above my existing lower cabinetry—quickly turned into a six-month refresh of our kitchen. And today, I’m finally showing you how it’s all coming together! I wanted this kitchen to feel more layered, collected, and personal, while still working with so much of what I already had. The new hutch gives me a beautiful place to display pieces I love and change things seasonally, but it also became the jumping-off point for rethinking the entire room. In this video, I’m walking you through the decisions I made along the way—from choosing paint colors and adjusting their depth, to cabinetry colors, tile, wallpaper, lighting, and the architectural details that completely changed the feeling of the space. I’m also sharing a tile mistake I made (and how I fixed it!), the tongue-and-groove ceiling and beams I added, the subtle ticking-stripe wallpaper that brought in just the right amount of texture, and why I replaced the recessed cans with directional flush mounts to better highlight artwork and architectural details. And I'm not quite finished yet! I’m still waiting on the classic unlacquered brass plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware, the chandelier that will be arriving at the end of next month, and I’ll be plastering the range hood soon!
