The declining narrative of Atlantic City is very reminiscent of traditional seaside towns of Britain. Overcast grey skies with a depleted present dreaming of a glories past as all the tourists flock to the sun. What killed these places was the acceleration of aviation travel & the climate. In Atlantic City’s case people go to Miami or Vegas for the sun in Britain people go to heart of the Mediterranean. The climate was the reason why these towns emptied.
