  fun fact... and worth pointing out: <br><br>tldr: all of them dont really use the fly brain as a fly brain. They use the neuron map and slap a standard neuronal network onto it in the shape of a flys brain<br><br> the fly connectome is basically a wiring diagram. It tells you which neurons connect to which, and roughly how strongly. It doesn&apos;t tell you how each cell actually behaves, what receptors it has, how dopamine and other modulators change things, or how any of it learns. That stuff is chemistry, and you can&apos;t see chemistry in an electron microscope.<br><br>So what these Doom/Mario and other projects do is take the wiring, drop the same generic neuron model into every cell, pipe game pixels into some sensory neurons they picked, wire motor neurons to keys, and then train the whole thing with a reward function they wrote. Which is fine, but at that point you&apos;ve got a neural net that happens to be shaped like a fly brain. The fly isn&apos;t playing anything.<br><br>To get anywhere near an actual simulated fly you&apos;d need real measured properties for each cell type, the actual biological learning rules (some are known), the modulators, hunger and other internal states, plus a body and a world the brain is meant for. And then you&apos;d check it the boring way: stimulate the same neurons researchers stimulated in real flies and see if the model does the same thing. Funny enough, for simple reflexes that already works pretty well. For anything to do with learning, nowhere close.
