  Over heard on Dent Station (which is nearly 2 miles from Dent village) - American tourist to station staff "Why didn't they build the station nearer the village?". Membr of staion staffs reply - "They thought it would be a good idea to build it near the railway!".

  A most superb video of a line that luckily got saved from almost closure. From the front, you can appreciate the heavy toil that went into constructing the railway on this so picturesque route. There are so many grand features like the stations (both still open, and those that long closed), viaducts, signal boxes, old goods warehouses, tunnels, embankments, cuttings etc. A marvel of Victorian infrastructural engineering. I once travelled this line from Carlisle to Leeds back in the 90s, but it wasn't as enjoyable as seeing this film, by any means. We must thank the whole of the production crew, the train company, the driver, and most sincerely to you Don, for all the editing and presentation. The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway trip was also fantastic. All the best, mate.

  Your mention of the turntable at Garsdale reminds me of the story of how, more than a century ago, strong winds once set a locomotive spinning uncontrollably!

  I remember the DMUs that used to ply the Newcastle to Middlesbrough line. The First Class sections at the front and rear had been declassified by the time I began riding them in the 60s and 70s, they had more comfortable seats but as the train built up speed you&apos;d bounce up and down like a yo-yo. If you were lucky the driver would only pull the blind down on his side of the cab so you could have a front-seat view and also see exactly how he worked the controls.
