협객 시라소니의 아내가 사랑하면서도 그의 앞에서 칼을 들어야 했던 이유 [이것이인생이다] | 협객시라소니의아내 | KBS 2003.07.08

Born in 1930 into a wealthy family in Seoul, Lee Jin-ok grew up monopolizing her parents' love. She was an intellectual who worked at Donghwa Department Store, a place said to be home to the most beautiful women in pre-liberation Korea. Considered the most beautiful woman even within the department store, Lee Jin-ok was the object of admiration among countless men. Then, in 1948, at the age of nineteen, she met Lee Seong-sun, also known as "Shirasoni," by chance. She was thirteen or fourteen years her senior, and at first, she felt only fear rather than attraction toward the older and rough Shirasoni. However, love blossomed during their one or two meetings, and Shirasoni and Jin-ok held a simple wedding ceremony without the blessings of their families. Yet, unlike most other gangsters whose private lives were complicated, Shirasoni never once strayed and loved her dearly. He always took his beautiful wife with him to show off, and whenever he discovered a good restaurant, he would make sure to take her there, showing how much he cherished her. However, because her husband had no interest in getting involved in vested interests, unlike other gangsters, she had to shoulder the responsibility of supporting her family while raising six children. They lived a life of poverty, surviving for a week on a single sack of flour obtained from the local community center. Even more terrifying than their impoverished existence was the fear of protecting her husband and children from terrorism targeting their family, so she could not even get a proper night's sleep. Although she suffered hardships after being attacked by Lee Jung-jae's faction in January 1953, she soothed her husband, who was sharpening the blade of revenge. While many politicians tried to tempt Shirasone, who had pacified the underworld, with bundles of money, Shirasone, who had promised Jin-ok that he would not do anything that was not righteous, firmly kept that promise and left not a single criminal record on his family register. Around the time Lee Jung-jae was being publicly humiliated and executed immediately following the May 16 military coup, Shirasone washed his hands of the underworld through Jin-ok's ceaseless persuasion and was reborn as a religious man. However, the five daughters and the youngest son, who inherited their father's blood, made a name for themselves in the Ansan and Pyeongtaek areas through their fists, just like their father... In particular, the son, who had been an all-around athlete since elementary school, was lured by delinquent gangs from all over the country after rumors spread that he "flyed from the front blackboard and kicked the back one." At one point, he wandered aimlessly, roaming from one fight ring to another...
