  My son and I stayed at the hotel (zum Türken) next to Hitler&apos;s former home in Berchesgaden around 2005. &nbsp; The lady who owned the hotel (Frau Sharfenberg) was the granddaughter of the man who was forced to sell by Bormann. &nbsp; She demanded to have the hotel back after the war, and kept it till she passed away. &nbsp; &nbsp;She told us that Otto Günsche knocked on her door some years after the war, asking if he could stay there. &nbsp; &nbsp;He told her stories ... and the housekeeper of the Berghoff also stayed there and told her stories. &nbsp; She would not tell us anything that was relayed to her. &nbsp; So there are most likely things that history books, YouTube videos, etc will never know. &nbsp; My son and I walked the path to where the Tea house had been, looking over the same sort of wood railing that had been there in 1940s.<br>We paid to go into the bunker below the hotel. &nbsp; &nbsp;Areas were closed off that led to Hitler&apos;s bunker. &nbsp; &nbsp;When walking on the property that had belonged to Hitler, you really cannot see much of anything except for the retaining wall, etc. &nbsp; &nbsp;I agree with others that these buildings should not have been destroyed. &nbsp; We did go to Eagles Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) each of the three times we visited that area.<br>It is amazingly preserved after all these years. &nbsp; &nbsp;It all looks like it was built last month.

  I served in the US Army 1st Armored Division in Bavaria 1982/86. I visited the Berghoff and back then the garage was partially still standing. I have a brick I pried loose from the small &quot;Kuche&quot; or kitchen from the Mooslahnerkopf tea house still to this day.

  I Read book called Windswept Lies of War a few nights ago and still can’t shake it. Some truths cut deep when you’re not ready for them.

  In 2004 I had the pleasure of visiting this entire area with some WWII members of the 101st &nbsp;Airborne 506th Co E. &nbsp;Of course the Berghof was down but Eagle&apos;s Nest was completely intact. &nbsp; Berchtesgaden was pretty and quite interesting. &nbsp; &nbsp;I purchased a DVD at Eagle&apos;s Nest that documented the building construction in the 1939s. &nbsp;An amazing feat. &nbsp;Pretty amazing place for sure.

  We should never topple these structures. &nbsp;It IS our history as human beings, and we need to be able to see tangible evidence of evil. &nbsp;Why? &nbsp;If we do not know and study history, we are doomed to repeat it! &nbsp;Humanity tends to do the same things over, and over. We need to remember.

  I managed to find the remains of the tea house. &nbsp;It was quite a long walk and was so tiring but what a view from the look out site. &nbsp;One of my best days in finding that

  One of the three most beautiful places I&apos;ve been. Driving from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden is incredible. Eagle&apos;s nest in worth seeing. Other two? Zermatt and Grand Canyon.
