Good video. Nice to see the two former Alaska Railroad American Bicentennial painted FP7's in action.

Happy that most of the passenger equipment went to good hands and future usefulness at Verde Canyon, which is a great venue

Wow. Great presentation. This is the first time I'm hearing and seeing that this railroad existed. Would be amazing if it still was.

Jim Pallow’s vinyl lettering job was so good that he had to manually scrape “Colorado” off and only then reletter it

My Moms' boyfriend Rex took me on this rout on a coal run in December of 1979 when I was 16 years old!!!!! He was a brake man for the U. P. and snuck me onto the lead engine during their  crew meeting. Stayed over night in Walden prior the  return trip. IT WAS A BLAST for a 16 year old. Evidently they used to do this a lot. Never get away with it these days.

They got the whole trains from the Alaska RR. I saw them while in Alaska RR service. Some of the ARR markings can even still be seen in this vid. The Diesels got a new paint job, but AFIK their number were kept.

Nicely done, thank you.  This brings back memories of when I worked for the railroad, fixing up the passenger cars before the launch of the scenic route. There was the Gene Kelly car (or was it Grace Kelly?) and the Esther ?? car.  The names came from when famous stars owned their own cars for traveling around the country between performances. Before that, when it was just known as the Coalmont Route, I would X-C ski, clattering  across the trestle and then along the M of W ruts at night, sometimes going out as far as the airport, for a magical kick and glide back to town.  The tall grass would hold the powder snow for several days, protecting it from the sun and wind. The bed was converted into a rail trail above Albany to northern Colorado, which is enjoyed by recreationists on horseback, bicycle and foot now.  I hope the section from town to Centennial would someday become a daily commuter rail line with new tracks laid.

Seeing those coal loads come out reminds me of the Kerr coal company which had the mine east of Walden. According to my understanding, the easy to mine coal is all gone. There may be coal left but it is so deep in the ground that it is not economically feasible to get it out of there.

I spent so much of my life up there. Camping out,  photographing the railroad. Following it, sun, rain or deep snow, I loved every minute of it. Sad to see it go. So many wonderful memories.  Fall was the best time.
