Rod "He Hate Me" Smart went on to have a 5 year NFL career with the Eagles and Panthers. He primarily played special teams, and his 1 and only touchdown came on a 100 yard kick return. Probably one of my favorite low key football stories.

The original XFL was easily one of the most WTF things to come out of that era. It was like, "what if we made NFL Blitz real?"

My main XFL memory is going to a Memphis Maniacs game and their defense knocking out the starting and backup QB. When the 3rd string ran on the field, folks in the crowd yelled "next victim" 😂

I love that all the XFL team logos look as though they could be used for energy drink companies.

The lasting legacy of the XFL is that Vince McMahon is a showman. And he treated football like a show.

And the NFL realized they, too, had a show

For people who didn't catch it at the time it's hard to express how much the WWE cameos hurt the league's reputation after this aired. Kids at school were immediately debating if the league was rigged because of the WWE stuff.

Something the scale and cost of the XFL did not need those kind of questions being asked after the very first night.

27:30 Stone Cold promo on an XFL game while Disturbed plays in the background. Couldn’t get any more early 2000’s than that 😂

39:09 the announcing crew for that game is THE announcing crew. JR and Jerry the King Lawler, the 2 voices of the attitude era. Id watch anything they announce

23:00 This still perplexes a ton of people who have any passing interest or knowledge of the XFL, and also had wrestling knowledge. They had Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler broadcasting the other game, arguably two of the most recognizable voices possible to anyone who would be tuning in because of WWE. It was also a much more competitive and well played game, that I'm pretty sure came down to the last few minutes. Yet they just chose to essentially black it out nationally.

Don't know if he's gonna be brought up, but my favorite XFL alumni has to be linebacker Paris Lenon, if only because he had a decently long NFL career playing for some of the absolute worst teams of the era, including the Brett Favre meltdown of 2005, the 0-16 Lions and then the 1-15 Rams right after, and just when he was on a team with a deep playoff run, it was the 2013 Broncos, whose defense got smoked in the Super Bowl. He retired right after that as the last standing XFL veteran
