My parents took me to see Waylon Jennings twice. I love them for that.

The Byrds were doing country music as early as 1965. Ralph Emery refused to play their single off Sweetheart of The Rodeo, leading Roger McGuinn and Gram Parsons to write 'Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man' in response.

RIP Dolly. Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine, Willis Allen Ramsey, it was a great time to be young.

Without Willie Austin would still be just a college town. I say that as a proud Texan who listens to Death Metal, Mexican Metal, Rock, Old Country, Alt Country, Americana, bluegrass R&B, Blues and Soul. Willie wrote hearing everything which made him appeal to the Hippies and the Shitkickers both. Smoked a bale of weed before it was cool.

When I got into country music in the early 90’s, I discovered Nanci Griffith. I bought her next cd, Other Voices Other Rooms. I still have it. My favorite song of hers, from her 1986 album, is There’s A Light Beyond These Woods, Mary Margaret.

Love Nanci's songs/writing. First time I heard her I sent for a Philo/Rounder catalogue and ordered a album. Still have all her albums, some CD,s, and some early Lyle Lovett

Gram Parsons was a true artist, for a South Georgia hippy boy he could put out some great country songs, he was one of my favorites as a longhaired South Ga boy myself in the 1970s. You got one of the 3 who broke the pop country curse that came about because of Urban Cowboy. You left out Randy Travis and Dwight Youkum. Those two along with Steve Earl saved country music in the dark days of the 1980s. Randy Travis' "On the Other Hand" was about as traditional country song as one could find on any radio station at the time.
