As a New Yorker, I LOVE LYON! highly recommend visiting instead of Paris, so charming and you can tackle the whole city in 2-3 days. Everyone is kind, crime is low, food excellent, exploration and beauty on par with Paris. And you can get to Paris in 2 hours and still spend a big night out there if you really want to. Following specifically bc you listed Lyon first. I’ve been visiting solo for fun for 4 summers in a row and take myself to a tasting lunch at Tetedoie, the food is so incredible it brings tears to my eyes and it’s half the price for a similar Michelin in Paris. Excellent city, excellent video, thank you!

You are the first person I’ve seen making these videos that talks about taxes and healthcare over 50. THANK YOU! I also love your comments about keeping your big American mouth shut and learning the local ways (although you were much kinder when you said it.) I would love to see you also talk about pets. I lived in Italy for several years, I’m back in America and looking at Europe again but finding that many countries have brutal quarantine mandates and breed restrictions. Would be great to hear about that as well as all the rest. Cheers!

Not sure how much different Athens, Greece is compared to Crete, but the food health there is off the charts compared to America. Went for a 3 month trip to Athens leaving weighing around 235ish pounds and came back as 196. Effectively lost 1 pound every 3 days for 3 months eating whatever I felt like without even trying to lose weight. While everything there was both cheaper and healthier on average, the water is the biggest one. High quality 1.5L waters for only about .25-.4 USD equivalence, whereas similar in America has an extra 0 at the end of the cost for similar high-quality bottled water. Expenses in general were also dirt cheap, as ignoring all tourism related costs was staying in Athens for around 700 euro (less than 1k USD) a month counting all expenses.

As an American in that exact situation...Berlin is a blast haha. If I were above 45-50, I would have said no but as it currently stands, it's a lot easier to build a social circle and learn another language (yes, even German) at this age than if I were twice my age and I knew that. It really depends on what profile of expat you really are to determine your match. A retired couple living off of retirement earnings is in a vastly different situation than a mid-career professional so it's not one-size fits all with these suggestions!
