I am a combat veteran of Vietnam. I will never forget my best friend Smitty, who was blown in half by a 152mm howitzer shell, the upper part of his body which struck me and sent me sprawling (rendering me deaf until I has surgery at the Mayo Clinic to rebuild my inner ears). This documentary of the Somme was very powerful, indeed. Every man who has been in combat recognizes the horror of battle. Thank you for the video. We must never forget. God bless the memory of these men. I suppose there's nothing else for me to say, at this point ...

I was an Infantry Combat Medic for 8yrs...I honestly do NOT know how ANY of these men were able to be remotely normal after seeing a war like that. I have some issues even now...many years after my time in...But what these men experienced!...MY GOD! Never will there be men like that again!

I am grateful the NEWFOUNDLAND soldiers were mentioned in this documentary! As a Newfoundlander, whose grandfathers fought in WWII…and like other CANADIANS…we don’t seek recognition for our sacrifices! Rather, we feel is is a moral obligation to prevent and halt diabolical torture and slaughter of Innocence from occurring!

It is crucial we all continue to remember, hold reverence, and caution future generations of those who sacrificed, along with the countless atrocities committed, in efforts of preventing future conflicts!🇨🇦

Fantastic documentary. Kudos to the folks that run this channel for not censoring images of the dead and dying. People need to know and understand the absolute savagery that is warfare.

The first minute and 18 seconds sounds like a poem. Wonderfully written and spoken. God bless those brave men.

Cheers to all the people who create these documentaries. I can only imagine how much time and effort it takes to put these together. They are fantastic and some of the best content out there. Thank you!!

Just when I thought that I’d watch everything on the Ist world war, this one is by far and the best of unseen footage that I’ve ever seen before. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome , powerful masterpiece of a documentary ! People forget the horrors of WW-1 . To think . Some of these same people that fought in this war went on to suffer in the Second World War . ..
