  Confessing every little thing you did wrong (according to the religion) to a human who also sins is insane to me. In a way, you’re giving them secrets to blackmail you whenever they want.

  I grew up catholic. I know the confession trauma well. She makes such a good point: who ever thought it was normal and appropriate for kids to have to tell an old man all of their secrets in private? It’s so crazy to think about now, as an adult, but it was just the norm.

  Sadly, sending daughters to college just to find a husband happens in a lot of faith traditions. &nbsp;I went to a Christian college and the &quot;joke&quot; was that most of the girls were just there to get their &quot;Mrs&quot;, and several dropped out (or changed to an &quot;easy&quot; major) as soon as they found a boyfriend. &nbsp;In freshman engineering, about 1/3 of the students were women. &nbsp;By sophomore year, it was down to 1/10, and I graduated as the only woman out of 17 people in my major (civil engineering). &nbsp;I was lucky enough to have parents who encouraged me to finish my degree (although I know they wanted me to find a husband, which I didn&apos;t). &nbsp;But it was just sad to see all the women who had the potential to do more give up on it because they felt their only purpose in life was to be a homemaker.<br><br>And BTW, &quot;you shouldn&apos;t have been there and you shouldn&apos;t have been drinking&quot; is one of the worst responses to SA I&apos;ve ever heard. &nbsp;I&apos;m so sorry that was what they said to you!

  As a former male in the Church I experienced a great deal of shame related to the opposite sex.<br><br>The messaging that I received that as the priesthood holder, I was responsible for her eternal salvation.<br><br>I missed out on lots of dating opportunities out of fear of potentially crossing that line. 😢<br>This Church keeps you on the &nbsp;sexual shame parade hamster wheel, whether male or female.

  Her father&apos;s reaction to her sexual assault was so sad, but not surprising. On numerous occasions, I have heard Mormon men basically say that SA is a sex act. They may consider it an undesirable sex act, but too many don&apos;t see it as an act of violence, abuse and violation. Because of this, they too often see the victim as a participant, rather than the true victim. I&apos;m convinced this is why so many Mormon leaders excuse/coverup/dismiss horrific acts by Mormon men with little to no compassion for the victims.

  Worthiness interviews need to stop. It&apos;s such a bad idea that leads to abuse. &nbsp;Thank you for speaking out and sharing your story.

  I was SA&apos;d on the one date I went on in high school, the summer before my Senior year, by a Mormon boy from my ward. He picked me up &amp; wouldn&apos;t take me home until he was sure I wouldn&apos;t tell my parents. I didn&apos;t have a cell phone, so couldn&apos;t call anyone to pick me up. Dating was not something I cared to think about for 4yrs. It&apos;s been 20yrs, &nbsp;he&apos;s now married in the Temple with 5 kids &amp; when I see his wife comment on a mutual friend&apos;s posts, I still have flashbacks. My bishop blaming me for &quot;putting yourself in that position&quot; started my exit from Mormonism.
