Retired at 60.5, a pilot. Flew EMS the final 8 years, a very fulfilling job. The 3rd shift hours and time away from home were like a cancer, but otherwise cherished my job and career. Pulled the plug, and 2.5 years later, only miss it a little. Getting my life back was insanely beneficial for me. Jump in, the waters great!

Working until 64 when I could have retired years earlier is not a regret. I loved my job, I increased my vacation benefit the last few years by foregoing raises, due to Covid I transitioned to remote work, and I am now living my retirement with financial freedom to travel extensively and fund my grandchildren’s education. My last 5 years of work were not drudgery but rather my 5 best!

Running out of time not running out of money. Well said.

BS6, EDM(x2), retired at 55, living well, but still within our means. No regrets as we enjoy the youth of our retirement years. There is a slight chance markets crash long enough to force us into "austerity" measures, for a time, but I'll take that over working 5-7 more years that we could NEVER get back!

I retired at 56 last October. My fear was losing an identity that I didn’t even like toward the end of my career. I also didn’t want to step into another phase of life. That scared the hell out of me. Now, I’m so glad I pulled the plug on my crappy job.

It’s crazy how one tiny habit can change your entire trajectory, and I swear every time I tell a 62‑year‑old client this, their whole face shifts. Here’s the part nobody thinks about: at 62, the U.S. system quietly hands you three clocks — Social Security timing, RMD timing under IRS rules, and healthcare timing — and the way you manage them determines whether you thrive or struggle. I’ve seen people boost their lifetime Social Security income by 20–30% just by delaying benefits, and others save thousands in taxes by planning around the SECURE Act’s RMD schedule. But the real game‑changer? A weekly 15‑minute check‑in on spending, investments, and health coverage. That tiny habit alone helps clients avoid the financial chaos that hits nearly 45% of Americans in early retirement. It sounds simple, almost silly, but once you start doing it, your entire retirement path snaps into clarity like someone turned the lights on.

The two people I knew who retired at 62 had both gone back to work. Inflation doesn't respect your age. They both used the opportunity to go into different fields.

Hands down this is the best video you have made, was just starting to work this out. When we had an advisor I kept asking these questions and not getting actual answers. Great job!

If someone has $2 million at time of retirement, unlikely that a long term care event would drain their accounts and there would be a need to get reverse mortgage.

Retired at 59 from federal government, I am now 64. I (and my wife), financially planned our entire life. Net worth now around $6M. You can’t predict changes to the law or the tax system. I would have/should have invested much more in Roth IRAs vs. traditional. I shouldn’t complain, but when I start taking from Ira’s and my MRD‘s from my government TSP, a 1/3 of that will go to Taxes. I’m taking social security next year and I will avoid the irmaa cliff. I believe having a good financial planner is very important because it’s hard to keep up with all the rule changes.
