  The episode about Mildred setting up life insurance on George in case he should pop his clogs first is ironic, when very sadly Yootha Joyce was approaching the end of her life when she recorded these episodes. &nbsp;<br><br>She died in hospital aged 53, in 1980, as a result of alcoholism. Brian Murphy, who was at her bedside when she passed away, would outlive her by almost 45 years, dying aged 92 in 2025.

  OMG I stumbled upon this and am now enjoying flashbacks from when I was about 6 years old. I always watched this show, I&apos;m guessing it was on before or after the Goodies or Sooty! Who knew I could still remember the early 80s? 😅

  Watching this in 2026 is a massive reality check because looking back at the Roper household 50 years later completely shatters the illusion of time. Browsing through the complete George &amp; Mildred series brings back pure nostalgia, but seeing sensationalized claims about classic sitcoms is wild when you realize how long ago it premiered. Losing legendary comedy icons Yootha Joyce (Mildred) back in 1980 and Brian Murphy (George) in 2025 hits like a total gut punch, but seeing co-stars like Norman Eshley still with us is deeply special. That classic 70s British comedy energy remains completely immortal.
