  Note: I want to thank everyone for listening and for the comments. I also want to emphasize that the purpose of this conversation isn&apos;t to ignite hardness or to eliminate our Christian witness of grace and loving our enemies. This is motivated out of deep love for the victims, offenders, and the church. And most importantly, for Jesus--and a desire to be living parables of the Gospel. I&apos;ve tried to answer several comments, but as the number of comments grows, unfortunately I can&apos;t answer all of them. There might be a similar question to your own that I was able to respond to. But, I will read all the comments because I truly want to hear you. I am currently in the middle of writing a book on this topic after months of deep research ignited by my own sincere questions and confusion. I can say this ... our course correction in the church will be so healing. We don&apos;t lose our inner healing or our willingness to bless those who curse us. We just lose the confusion that has entered as a result of incorporating secular therapeutic ideas into the church and redefining forgiveness for no explicit biblical reason.   For me forgiveness is letting it go but without repentance there is no reconciliation.🙏

  June Hunt defined forgiveness this way: &nbsp;Instread of keeping the (unrepentant) offender on the hook (or on your hook) for the offense, you take him off your hook and put him on God’s hook and trust that God will deal with him righteously.

  First up forgiveness does not mean reconnection or reconciliation. Too many in the body of Christ forget this and use forgiveness as a tool to continue to manipulate and harass people.

  &quot;But when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your father in heaven can forgive your sins.&quot; Just don&apos;t confuse forgiveness with reconciliation, unless the offender repents. It&apos;s actually pretty simple.

  God forgives me when I repent... truly sorry and walking opposite of the offense. &nbsp;But consequences of sin are not always erased.

  Forgiveness does not equal reconciliation… reconciliation requires repentance and accountability.

  I cannot even begin to tell you how needful this discussion is, or how badly I needed to hear this on a personal level. &nbsp;I feel vindicated in how I have always approached forgiveness (the biblical way), even as I was judged as being harsh or having a hard heart because I did not accept the concept that I just needed to &quot;get over it&quot; and invite the unrepentant offender back into my life under the guise of &quot;seventy times seven.&quot; THANK YOU.

  This is so edifying and enlightening. Going through a divorce from a narcissistic alcoholic addict who says he&apos;s a Christian. It became physical so I felt compelled to part ways. There is no sorrow or desire to repent. The church did not help me and shunned me. God walked with me the entire way while feeling bitter, vengeful, anguish and also guilt and pity. This brings so much clarity. From my heart I thank you.
