  My father has passed on. Seeing this footage brings back so many memories. Dad flew a P 47 named, &quot;Stinky&quot; on the nose art. He was stationed in Toul, France, served in the 1st Tactical Air Force, XII Tactical Air Command, 64th Fighter Wing, 358th Fighter Group, 365th Fighter Squadron. Late in life, he had a library of strafing and aerial combat footage he would watch on occasion. The memories proved too much to endure as he grew old enough to reflect on the human cost. Dad was a true warrior, a patriot, an ethical businessman...and loved our country. He left behind a self-published book, &quot;Volkmerluft.&quot; A member of his squadron gave a moving eulogy at Dad&apos;s funeral. They flew at tree-top level in close formation, in the worst weather Europe had seen in years, and Dad was considered to be one of the best, the most reliable pilots to fly with in these conditions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on June 06, 1945.

  My dad&apos;s brother flew with this group in early 44.... was shot down in April of that year while escorting 24s on missions into Germany.... Shooting up trains on the return trip...Got Hammered by Flak and in attempt to get out of his plane was struck by the rear horizontal stabilize.... fell 3000 ft to his death.... his wing man said he circled him as he was falling .... he knew he was gone.... LT. Kennith Kay Kitts.... 24 yrs old.... have his Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross on my Mantel with all the military hardware I earned while serving with the U.S. Military 40 year&apos;s later....Greatest Generation Ever.... 11 Bravo Forever 🇺🇲

  My dad flew P47 - he is still with us (age 96) &nbsp;His lic plate is JUG P47 - great stories.

  My grandfather who just turned 103 flew P-47&apos;s with this unit during wwii escorting B-24 Liberators and attacking the V-1 &amp; V-2 launch Sites. He still talks about those days and how the P-47&apos;s flew.

  Thank God for all those brave men in the air and on the ground. &nbsp;My Uncle was 82nd Airborne in D-Day and the Bulge. &nbsp;How any of those guys made it home is a miracle.

  My Mom worked at Republic on the team that developed the bubble canopy &nbsp;first seen on the P-47. &nbsp;She told us that they did not think it could be done so the team was a girl, an old man and a black man. &nbsp;But they pulled it off.

  As a kid in the 70s, I had a Corgi P-47 that was painted like the ones in the opening scene. Corgi was a toy maker that made awesome toys out of metal. It was one of my fav toys for years! My folks bought it at that famous toy store featured in the movie Big.

  My dad flew P-39s and P-38s in North Africa and was a flight instructor in Mexico City teaching Mexican pilots to fly the P-47 during the invasion of the Philippines. The Mexican 201st Fighter Squadron was called The Aztec Eagles.

  Richard, thank your dad for his service. All of us younger guys that served respect these guys in a large way. These guys were and still are HAMMERS!
