Full disclosure, I read the patch note wrong for Season 3. His Vicious Rampage leap is staying the same. His Feral Leap is definitely getting the cooldown increase like I said, though. My b.

As a tank player, there's nothing scarier than a skilled wolverine :'(

Lord here, great guide as always. Couple extra tips:

If you’re struggling to land Feral Leap grabs, try this: dash in with Vicious Rampage, make contact, get at least one Savage Claw swipe in, then hit them with Feral Leap. It helps bridge that quantum realm-sized gap between you and the enemy that somehow causes the grab to whiff.

Also, don’t be afraid to disengage and reset your cooldowns. Logan’s not a brute, you’ve got to play him smart. If you’re stuck on mosquito duty (a.k.a. annoying the enemy backline) while your team respawns and catches up, that’s the play until you can get back to your regularly scheduled tank-yeeting.

If you are playing well as a Wolv, the only tanks on the enemy team will be Penni and Emma (if they even bother tanking) and the entire team will swap to counter you. No other hero causes the enemies to swap as much as our boy Logan.

I got 150 hours on wolv, starting at season 0 when everyone thought he was bad.
First off when you ult, it's the buggiest ult in the game. If you use it too quickly, it'll bug out and not work. If you use it too slow and they go above your head, it won't work, you need to actually fly through them for it to work, if there's a bridge too high you will hit it, if there is specific object beneath you it will stop you from lunging entirely, but that said it also works on walls so you can use that creatively if the floor isn't your desired location or a higher up enemy. Also it does exactly 40 Rage so if you feel the absolute need to use it before max which I generally don't recommend, do it at 60+. It will still do less with the initial attack but it will be less of a loss. The further your second attack goes the more damage you will do as every second you are flying it will tick damage. Don't be afraid to use your dash after the impact for fast damage but try to get used to using the leap, you will almost always need it to take out a squishy as they will be getting healed and after the nerf to the stun it is not enough to finish them. You can also use the ult in the air for fliers and it counts as hard CC, so if you're playing against a good Wanda for example and she waits for you to use your leap to start her ult, ruin her day, fly up to her and ult in her face.

Good ults to counter are Invis's, max rage in her ult, find her, ult her out, use leap right before the stun ends to finish her off. Punisher is good as well since he doesn't fly up just doing the ult as quickly as possible has no down side. Wanda is a good example as above but I recommend just saving your leap for that. You can counter Thing's ult with leap as well.

Your biggest counters are Invis, most of her abilities will literally turn off your leap even if you've already grabbed someone, so be wary. Thing is not, just be sure to leap into him when you think he's about to start sweating at his HP before he tries to run, he will be stunned even though he won't fly away with you and you can use that time to shred him. Fliers are a pain, you can get good with your leap at them but even then it's not preferred. Mr. Fantastic is irritating due to overshield *NOT* taking extra damage from your %. That's why Venom feels so much tankier than other characters, speaking of Venom try to grab him right when he's about to swing away, or just before so your team can blast him before he swings. Emma is painful, but what you want to do is go forward and try to bait her diamond form and then just dash away until it ends or she uses her grab, then treat her like any other tank, use her shield for free rage. Wait for Luna ults, enemy teams will often be stacked together right as it ends to give you an easy team wipe. Loki runes are your bane, never use ult when he has them. A good Thor does more damage then you, be careful, he can win that one v one better than any tank except for Diamond Emma. Wait for Magneto to bubble by baiting it out, then leap him into your team, he can survive it, and his healers if they are worth anything will heal him with it on him as he floats back. You can leap into Hulk to stun you both, this is good if he's trying to flee with low health for your team to finish him. Try to com your teams whenever you grab someone, or ping them after you've grabbed them and landed, this helps a lot I swear. *DO NOT* swing at Pen mines unless you are sure it's safe, you will be webbed and exploded in less than a second. Safer to just grab the Pen and finish her 90% of the time, if the mines are far and you think jumping is safe enough and you can wipe the mines out due to low health alright, but 90% of the time it's a bad idea.

Another wolv is another nightmare. You can ruin both his Ult by grabbing him with your leap as soon as he lands to save your team from his claws, or grab him after he just finished grabbing someone else for the same effect. Generally speaking the second wolv to grab is the one that wins, unless they have a team that pays attention and they fire upon the grabbed first wolv. This is rare, but try not to get grabbed near the team fight's center.

You are a brawler as Wolv, the more uptime you have, the better. Tanks will naturally respect you and you can easily take space, if they don't, they will learn to quickly. Help your solo tanks with making space, use your dash generally to get out of combat for cover to get healed and then right back in while waiting for your leap to go off CD. Your leap has a really weird hitbox, it is not as large side to side, so if you start to turn before you grab, you will often miss it, either grab them from your back or your front, then twist around and try to bring them back to your team. Don't be afraid to use your dash as a quick finisher if you during savage claws as one of those does more than one savage strike.

You can go further by dashing then leaping at the end of your dash and finally howling mid air and bunny hopping. Don't do this often, only during overtime. Constantly use dash for extra speed however. With your team up, tell your teammates to throw you at their their feet mid fight constantly. Why? Savage claws for CQC. While you can be thrown high in the sky like the video stated, it'll generally just leave *you* isolated and unable to get a pick in any lobby above diamond. This is negated if you have rocket jump. Always play like you don't have your passive, keeping it for when you really need it is important. Bucky's will get an again from your passive, so he can get two charges from you. Try to sharpen your claws up before the fight if the enemy has objects, groot walls being the most obvious. The more rage you have before the actual fight the better chance you have of surviving it.

If the enemy team is solo tanking, don't be afraid to pop off Wolv, especially with Triple S. You can do it but there's far better ways to get Value. I go Magik for example, also get used to playing your secondary for when Season 3 comes out, that teamup is going to put us in the ban jail whether it's good or not just due to fear.

I got more I'm sure but that's all off the top of my head. Sharpen your claws bubs.

I have 2 major wolv tips 1. Be patient 2. Bat abilities on “counters” try to bait Emma diamond or mag bubble are examples of the main tools to survive

I still remember when the consensus on launch was Wolverine sucked and I was out there dropping mvps in nearly every match I played and proving that sentiment wrong. He’s insanely op if you play him right

Nerdy pro tip: you don’t need to wait for full rage to get max value from Wolverine’s ultimate. You gain 25 rage immediately when you launch somebody up with the first hit, and that first hit’s damage doesn’t scale with Rage like the slam does. The launch up always deals 50 damage regardless of the target or Rage. Because of this, as long as you have at least 75 Rage, you’re going to be doing the most damage possible.

I think you misunderstood the S3 changes so i'll just briefly go over it:

Pre-S3: Feral leap is 12s cooldown, and his berserker claw strike duration is 4s (this is the duration where he constantly swipes at his target at a higher attack speed than normal)
Post-S3: Feral leap is 15s cooldown, and his berserker claw strike duration is 5s

his vicious rampage is unchanged so you can still animation cancel it

As a Thing player that loves the Wolverine Team-Up, I find the best times to use the ability is during a team fight. Just whip out a fastball and chuck Wolverine at a tank. Wolverine’s quick ascent during Feral Leap is what makes the move so difficult to use in the first place. His Team-Up goes wherever you throw him, no ascent, so he’s actually mad accurate. If he misses, whatever, just try again in a couple seconds. But if he LANDS it, he’s practically guaranteed a feral leap confirm. So much fun to use, it’s a shame more players can’t synchronize like that.

Slightly nerfed 7/17/25 balance patch: "Wolverine

Time to temper Logan's rage and slightly reduce his survivability.
- Increase Berserk Claw Strike Base Damage from 6 to 8. Reduce Percentage Damage per attack at maximum Rage from 4.5% to 3.5%.
- Increase Regenerative Healing Factor cooldown from 90s to 105s. Increase cooldown reduction from 10s to 12s when participating in KOs.

TEAM-UP ABILITIES

Primal Flame (Phoenix - Wolverine)

Our fiery mutant duo's bond has been a little too hot to handle. So we're cooling down Wolverine's healing when teaming up with Phoenix.
- Reduce Lifesteal gained during Phoenix Warrior from 33% to 25%."
