At 66, I was asking myself if I should continue riding. I stopped for a coffee, and an old guy came to me and asked questions about my bike. I must admit being a bit annoyed by this man. I guess he was pushing the old guy image to my face. Then, he said something which changed my view on my riding. He said:"I'm 87 and I still ride my Honda Shadow 2001 on slower roads and enjoy it as much as when I was a young man! As I left to go back home I was smiling and was happy that I still had at least 21 years of riding ahead as me! If I took good care of myself. I can't thank that gentleman enough for showing me the path of my future.

I returned to motorcycling at the age of 78 after a 50-year layoff. I'm now aged 88 and still riding, as is my 70-year-old wife, who rides her own bike.

My wife recently passed.
I’m 70 in pretty good shape and bought another Harley. Can’t wait to get going!

When I returned to riding at 65, I find now that I’m a better rider than I’ve ever been before. I don’t ride scared, but I do ride vigilant. Things like speed, following distance, lane position, are more in focus then they were in my younger days. Paying more attention to signage alone has given me a better edge, and prevents the “zoning out” that used to get me into trouble.

Excellent advice,as always. I didn’t start riding until age 62, after aging out of more physical pastimes such as scuba diving, backpacking, and deep water sailing. I’m still riding at age 86. I ride well as long as I’m rested, but don’t have the stamina for high mileage days. So I plan accordingly.

I did. During my cancer treatment I gave myself a carrot. If I live I am getting a new motorcycle. No stomach and 13 holes in me, lost 70 pounds down to 115lbs. Only 5% live 5 years with this esophagus/stomach cancer but I got my bike. Looking like a WWII POW I got on an drove it home.
Small but it was all I could do to keep it up right. God is awesome.
Never give up.
2022 choice was very hard, settled on KTM 390 Adventure, been good to me.

I retired at 65 1/2. I hadn't owned a motorcycle for about 38 years. At 68 years old, I bought a used 650 V Strom. I have averaged about 8000 miles a year and just now turned 76. In the last two years, I have added a Kawasaki Versys 300X and a KLX 230 for off road riding. Love all three. I have absolutely never had one minute of regret for getting back into riding and it is my main source of enjoyment in my retirement. Most of my riding is in the Southeast where there are twisties everywhere. I will ride until I can't hold them up anymore.

Great video. At 70, I have a BMW 1250GSA, and just purchased an Aprilia 660 Tuareg. Considering selling the big Beemer because the Tuareg is just so much more fun! 140LBS lighter, and much easier to manage. Best nugget for a returning rider out of your video for choosing the proper bike to me was: see if you can back it up. If you are in a tight parking spot and can’t manage the bike, you bought the wrong one! Choose wisely and every ride will put a smile on your face!

I started riding for the first time when I was 71. I'm 76 now and love it more all the time. You just need to remain alert and attentive to what's going on all the time. Be safe.

I'm still riding at 62 and would urge people to do a Bike safe course, it's a great day and gives excellent advice to keep you safe, whilst riding defensive 😊👍🏻
