  its fantastic that I have the option to buy 4 brand new games, that are physical, come in boxes with instructions. I hope this continues.

  The default video settings being terrible is 100% not your fault and is such an easy fix from Modretro’s side. Imagine being a kid buying this from GameStop…

  Mad props for redoing this video and owning your user error, however, this shouldnt be that difficult out of the box for the user to figure out. I know Palmer Lucky did a video on showcasing the hardware, maybe a video showcasing the software would have gone a long way.

  Really great videos, Mort! I didn&apos;t think your original video was disingenuous. In my opinion, you were extremely clear on your lack of tinkering on the first video, so I don&apos;t think it was bad or unfair at all. Modretro should really update the default video settings, because the defaults are just indefensible. All in all, I&apos;m hopeful they can continue to improve settings with updates to be on par with Analogue 3D - and I wish I saw your original video before ordering the M64. <br><br>One thing that I think doesn&apos;t get covered enough (although it&apos;s a nerdy hardware detail) is the effort taken in the design of the M64 to emphasize very long term durability and robustness (e.g., gold plating on connections and wires). Nonetheless, I know the nitty gritty details are not your focus (as you clearly state).<br><br>Keep up the great work Mort!

  IDK, I think your original vid was incredibly fair. It is what it is. They shipped it to you, you should expect the default settings to look great. Switching to scanlines shouldn&apos;t blow out the image like that by default.

  I think the most damning criticism is that its default video settings are so poorly optimized for popular televisions. With most good video hardware, the &quot;secret settings&quot; menus exist for enthusiasts to fine-tune or connect to an offbeat display, NOT to get to a useable initial baseline. Maybe one of their first big updates should be an introductory menu where you select the year, size, and type of display, which would pre-select the best (estimated) settings as tested by the ModRetro team. At the very least it would preclude a lot of console returns by frustrated customers!

  Problem is, those custom settings cannot be saved. You have to re-apply them every single time you boot the console. Until they fix that, mine will remain in its box.
