With no constraint on the aspect of the rectangle, you can just call it a square - implicit in the problem is that answer only depends on the area, not the aspect ratio

If you made the sides of the rectangle 2x and 2y will be easier later

A lot of people are commenting saying that they just assumed the rectangle's aspect ratio to be something of their choosing since it isn't given, but this is a mathematically incorrect approach. You need to prove that the solution is independent of the aspect ratio. To assume that it is so because the question must have a singular solution is mathematically unsound reasoning.

Started exactly like this, but stopped in the middle and restarted with new labels. <br>If you define the rectangle sides as 2x and 2y , then xy=1 and every (parenthesis)square suddenly looks super comfortable. :)

I went with the easiest case of the rectangle being a 2x2 square and calculated it that way after realizing that the ratio of the rectangle is variable. When a question like this is posed this kind of approach is often a good one that saves time and effort, but it's not rigorous.
