I always find it so funny how people will argue about the debt snowball versus avalanche versus whatever else. If you've set up your life so that you're spending less than you make and you have margin to put toward paying down your debts, you've already done the hard part - if you can stick with it, the debts will get paid off, whatever order you pay them off in.

Once I saved enough to pay cash for the car that I wanted, but I did not buy it. It was hard to part with the money that I worked too hard to save!😮😮😮😮

I still think the debt snowball has more psychological value to it. Little victories add up.

My parents did that with the flats back in the day in Russia - inherited a 1-room apartment, a really small flat, saved some money - here is the one with 2 rooms, saved some money - 3 rooms... relatable.

I can't imagine the dancing you'd do in federal prison if you didn't pay the IRS. Probably not YouTube appropriate 😂

Mathematically, paying in order of highest interest rate makes a difference in the total you'll pay (which is important), but most people in that position don't have the discipline to follow through with that, so paying them off in order of least balance can be very helpful.

Really though, the important part is that it gets paid off. Think of the difference as the cost of tricking yourself if you don't have the discipline.
