The fact that “Schuberite” apparently became synonymous with betrayal and cruelty on Crete tells you how deeply this man was remembered. I am really glad that Schubert and his Nazi friends got the end they deserved. Another excellent documentary.

27 death sentences plus thousands of years in prison. I don't think I've ever heard of a sentence like that before. This is exactly why smaller stories from occupied Europe deserve documentaries of their own. Thank you for your excellent production.

Many of this day only know of the Nuremburg trial. Glad you review others that took place.

At least there was a happy ending...<br>None of they got away or were imprisoned, only to be freed 10 years later and die free men in a retirement home.

His knowledge of Greek, Turkish, Italian and Arabic made him useful to the German occupation authorities, and in 1941 he was sent to Crete. There he gradually moved from interpreting and counterintelligence work to commanding an armed group of Greek collaborators. Known locally as the Schuberei, the unit was used to hunt resistance fighters and people suspected of supporting them.

I am always amazed by resistance units that continued actions knowing that the locals would suffer in the end.
