The prompt discount request has saved me, quite literally, thousands of dollars throughout the past two decades. If you take nothing else from this video, take this: in this, and in all things, it never hurts to simply ask. The worst they can ever say is no.

The game is rigged. Notice that the "billing errors" run in favor of the hospital—not the patient.

30 years ago, I didn’t know any better and I disputed a hospital bill, because it was so large that I could not pay it. By the time we got done checking and validating, the hospital dismissed the entire charge and I paid nothing.

I was a finance director for a huge medical corp, owner of many hospitals in DC. This info is 100percent true. Good job creator.

After my father died, they billed my mother. I called the financial department and stated “she absolutely will not pay this now that she’s a widow!!” I never heard from them ever again.

Just about everything is negotiable but most people fear negotiation.

Step 1.5 Request the Fully itemized bill you will nearly always find items that are NOT provided, administered, or performed.

I've found too that scans outside the hospital are sometimes 400% cheaper. Going to the hospital or off site same hospital affiliation for scans is way overpriced and literally thievery.

I work at a hospital and the insurance fraud is overwhelming from my own department. A 1/4 to up to a 1/2 of the orders are unnecessary. All to bill the insurance. What is worse is the ordering provider get a cut. The more exams they order, more money they make. More work for me.

I always ask for bill forgiveness based on income. It was great when I qualified and had my bill wiped. Later on my salary grew and I didn’t qualify anymore, but they still gave me a discount just because I applied.

Got a bill from an er visit over 17,000 with great union insurance! That showed I owed 900! I called and asked for an itemized list. They ask me if I had my insurance copies I said yes! A couple months latter they sent me a check for 100 dollars for over payment!
