I've been there, it's shocking that so many casualties happened in such a small area in only a few hours. The cornfield is like 2.5 football fields yet holds as many casualties as D day.

When it comes to dealing with casualty numbers from the Civil War, I imagine towns near where I live. For Antietam I have to imagine every single person in Shelbyville, TN dead, wounded, or missing.

I had two great great uncles that squared off with each other in the Antietam Cornfield. One served in the 19th Indiana of the Iron Brigade and the other was one of the original members of Wheat's Louisiana Tiger Battalion which by then had been merged with Coppens Louisiana Zouaves. The former would survive this fight only to be killed in action on the first day at Gettysburg. The latter was listed as missing in action after the battle.

I visited Antietam on a trip south in 2005 .....the casualties in the Civil War were hard to fathom and then they were off to fight another battle with the same ....

My Great Great Grandfather Jesse Skinner 1st Texas company M was one of the few to survive the cornfield. 82% casualties. I cant imagine.

What do you guys think it is that’s so deep rooted about Antietam. I’ve been many times but I can’t explain the feeling I get there. It’s beautiful, chilling from that day and can’t explain it!!! Thank you for the video was there the 14th
