  What makes this story so powerful is that the greatest threat to the Allied alliance wasn’t the German offensive—it was the pride and politics between commanders who were supposed to be fighting together. And in the end, the man who quietly saved that alliance wasn’t the famous field marshal, but Freddy de Guingand, while thousands of exhausted American infantrymen in the frozen Ardennes paid the real price and simply refused to break.

  Churchill had to make a speech to Parliament about Montgomery's multiple comments including that he saved Bastogne

  You failed to mention that COL Koch,  Patton's intel officer,  showed him reports from civilians,  some POWs and from guys on the Frontline reported hearing armor etc., moving at night.   Since Patton trusted COL Koch that's why Patton had 3 different battlefield plans in place.

  EVERYTHING I've heard about Montgomery says he was a narcissistic jerk.  He was so full of himself as o be insufferable and all the Allied officers and troops who worked with him or under his orders hated his guts.

  Bradley was asked for the IL state Capitol.   He said Springfield which is correct.   The GIs thought it was Chicago.   So they "arrested " him for a short time

  I blame Eisenhower, that little fart (Patton's name for Montgomery) would have been fired so fast and sent back to England, it would make Germany's 262 look like a biplane. If the British had a problem with this, then they could fight the Germans by themselves with their own supplies.

  RE: Montgomery … of all of Churchill’s Field Generals, unfortunately he was as good as Churchill could find.  Look at that guy who surrendered Singapore … guy who was supposed to be holding Crete and Cyprus … the guys running the Alexandria front before Montgomery.  El Alamein defense and offensive was due to many of Montgomery’s personality traits that prove successful. Great Britain had been standing alone for 2 years plus before USA showed up, (and the guy running the USA Tunisia fiasco).  In many ways Montgomery wasn’t much different than Patton, Patton being better at strategy, tactics, better planner, and more aggressiveness. When you have 2 prima donnas like this, you could predict Montgomery’s behavior.

  Writer luvs & learns from these stories & @ 78yrs old am still learning about history that was never taught 2 me/us growing up. I have seen/heard many of these stories on YouTube & believe Patton was taken out 4 some strange reason. Now look @ the mess we have in 2026. Anyway U folks that put this history lesson together, come up with a live person 2 narrate these stories instead of AI constantly stumbling through names & dates. In this day & age (2026) writer wants 2 hear 👂 these stories as if my (grandparents) were telling us these stories. Just asking. Anyway thank U 🙏 David E.

  Monty was an world class asshole and not really a smart military strategist, who had poor leadership of position amongst the ranks.
