  Saw this in the Theater in 1984 (what a year). &nbsp;Still the best baseball movie of all time what movies and movie stars are supposed to be.

  As a 76 year-old baseball fan who&apos;s &apos;seen &apos;em all&apos;, this was a darn good movie. &nbsp;Redford was &apos;a natural&apos;.

  I have been a baseball fan since 1967, when I listened to games on my transistor radio as a ten year old kid. This movie captured the &quot;spirit and allure&quot; of the game. Its musical score and visual depictions of a baseball stadium, player psyche, and manager&apos;s dedication to the craft are unmatched by all other baseball movies. And, the batting cage scene, this scene, and the final scene bring me to tears, sometimes remembering my childhood listening to my home team&apos;s games and my father asking me the next day after his workday, &quot;Did we win?&quot; And me, answering, &quot;No.&quot;

  Even after all these years, 40 of them, the buildup, the mystery, Roy Hobbs knocked the cover off that ball, and it still gives me goosebumps that miracles could happen

  Redford had a nice swing and looked like a ballplayer, despite being 47 years old and playing a character in his late mid 30s.

  this movie was basically a mythological epic (like the ODYSSEY) dressed up as a baseball story. <br><br>it is teeming with symbolism, metaphor, morality cues, tragedy, and almost supernatural elements. <br><br>it’s one of the reasons why it’s a great film.

  Never gets old. The soundtrack is so crucial to giving this movie its feel. Love hearing those cracks of the bat when he&apos;s taking batting practice. They said when Mantle hit the ball it made a different sound than everyone else.
