  The most interesting takeaway from these vintage gem rate datasets is not that CGC is “better” than PSA — it’s that the actual grading gap appears far smaller than the market currently prices in.<br><br>If PSA’s vintage gem rate is roughly 11.3% and CGC’s is around 15.7%, then PSA 10s are about 1.4x harder to achieve, not 5x or 10x harder. Yet for many iconic vintage cards, the market often values PSA 10s at 5–10x the price of CGC 10s.<br><br>That suggests the majority of the spread is not explained by grading difficulty, but by brand equity, liquidity, registry demand, and historical market perception.<br><br>PSA absolutely deserves a premium. The data supports that. What the data does not support is the idea that a CGC 10 is so much easier to obtain that 8–10x valuation gaps are inherently justified.<br><br>As more collectors start looking at actual gem rate statistics instead of legacy assumptions, I suspect the long-term story is not PSA collapsing, but rather selective spread compression in high-end vintage cards where scarcity and availability ultimately matter more than the logo on the slab.

  I think the sole reason PSA slabs are much more fluid is that PSA was the first TCG grading company around and therefore collectors started investing in them heavily.<br>If CGC slabs were to take up suddenly for whatever reason, it&apos;d would pretty much devalue all the existing PSA slabs by default, which none of the collectors, investors, influencers would want obviously.<br>There&apos;s no reasonable argument as to why one company&apos;s slab should outprice the other&apos;s. It&apos;s pure subjective favoritism

  The rise in PSA gem rate starting from ~Oct &apos;25 is probably due to the record number of gem rates given to the Burgerchu card

  I think it would be really interesting to compare the different era rates for each company (ex: all CGC rates on one graph, all PSA on another) and look at the points in time to see what could’ve impacted them (changes in the market, grading standards, etc)

  Definitely interesting. I agree with others that the standard changing within PSA has an impact. I also think there are a lot of new people on the hobby and sending their &quot;pack fresh&quot; card and expecting tens.
