  As an animal lover, I appreciated that neither survivor came away blaming the animals involved. John understood that the jellyfish was simply doing what jellyfish do, and Travis recognized that the mountain lion was a wild predator acting on instinct. That perspective is refreshing because so many people immediately want to label wildlife as &quot;bad&quot; after incidents like these. The story about the mountain lion cub especially made me sad because it sounded like a young animal learning how to survive. At the same time, Travis did what he had to do to stay alive. Did anyone else come away with a lot more respect for how unpredictable nature can be?

  This episode clearly illustrates the theory of “predator-prey behavior.” By running at high speed, Travis unintentionally triggered the mountain lion’s instinctive chase response while it was practicing hunting behavior.

  Reminder to take a squirt bottle full of vinegar to the beach. It helps with any jellyfish sting. The non life threatening jellyfish stings still hurt like a b*tch.
