  I must agree about kyoto. I was stunned at the temple gardens. To leave the temple garden to the bamboo forest was also magical. I saw volunteers in their 80s and 90s brushing the moss with tiny brush and dust pan and remove bits of debris with tweezers. The meaning and care given to creating a worshipful place of rest was like nothing I expected

  I was fascinated to learn of Monty Don’s choices. I was so looking forward to see what he chose and he didn’t disappoint. No wonder MD is my favourite gardener. I loved every single garden and his reasoning for choosing them. ❤❤❤❤❤

  I'd like to add Parham House & Gardens in West Sussex to this list. It's my most favourite, magical garden of all time and I love it more and more each time I go.

  Great choices out of an infinite pallet.  These are, of course very large scale gardens.  I think many people think gardens are small and so here in the USA we think these choices are parks.  So, we see in these choices that a garden of any size has to do with design, commitment to design, and discipline of maintenance.  The story of the the High Line in NYC is such a fantastic story.  Much of the maintenance is volunteers!  Many thanks, Monty for your years of leading and inspiring!

  Monty Don&apos;s choices combined are like a gardenhistory course 😄. <br>I would not be able to choose 5 &nbsp;but then I&apos;m not him. I do enjoy almost all gardens that do not look like parkinglots in disguise and that are well &nbsp;looked after .<br>My compliments for his pronounciation of the name Oudolf.

  I would also recommend the Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu, Japan. It was our favourite example of a landscape garden
