  if I had a nickel for loving specific songs of musicals about a girl singing about hating her dead older brother I'd have two nickels, which isn't much but it's weird it happened twice

  I don&apos;t like Dear Evan Hansen as a story, because it&apos;s really creepy when you think about it.<br>(I haven&apos;t seen Next 2 Normal, so i won&apos;t be talking about it)<br>Evan is a kid who has social anxiety and depression. Okay, good plot line. Maybe he finds a group of unlikely friends? Nope! He&apos;s seeing the dead ghost of a kid he talked to once and led on his grieving family to make them believe that they were friends all because he had a crush on the dead guys sister. And on top of all that, leaving his mother out of the loop who (although not perfect) is trying to help him, but he pushes her away. <br>For years, I&apos;d only listened to the soundtrack, then i got to see a stage performance, and i have the script book it made me turn away from the musical because the story is sending the wrong signals i think.

  And you forgot that both shows end on the whole cast singing together about the theme of light (&quot;there will be light&quot; / &quot;all we see is light&quot;), which is a theme in bother cases. And both have the motif of a teenage guy like a prisoner behing a window (the west end stagging of the ect / &quot;waving through a window&quot;).

  In the argentinean production, the actress who played Diana Goodman years later played Cynthia Murphy, and then, some of the Dear Evan Hansen&apos;s cast played in the reposition of Next To Normal.

  my local theatre company is doing Dear Evan Hansen this upcoming month, a show which i love, and this made me scrounge up my old DVD from when they did Next to Normal a few years back, and the similarities are there! also i forgot how much i LOVEEE Next to Normal it&apos;s so good and I cried so harddd
