The fact that Buddha’s words from 2,500 years ago still feel like advice we need today is mind-blowing

There’s something comforting knowing Buddhism isn’t about worshipping some unreachable savior but working on ourselves directly

I'm 74 now, and for the first time I see clearly — existence isn’t something to possess, but to awaken to and gently let be.

No one explains existence so clearly. Yes, that is precious.

The term “suffering” as many buddhist scholars have argued does not truly encapsulate the true meaning/essence of the pali word “dhukka” - it is the closest “interpretation” for a term that subsumes much broader, deeper and complex meaning than just physical/mental pain and anguish. IT includes the whole (macro/micro) phases of human emotions and sensations in the mind’s continuum - which are all ultimately unsatisfactory, ever changing, inconclusive and impermanent.

It is not that these associated factors and it’s corollaries in of themselves cause us to “suffer” but it’s our “attachment” that arise from the illusion of identifying and personalizing them as “me, i mine” (including joy, sadness, neutrality and peace)… induces us to experience “dhukka”. When in fact, the core of buddhist philosophy is that “all things are empty of inherent existence” including the so callee “self”. Dwell longer and go deeper…you will begin to enter the buddhist ontological/metaphysical rabbit hole…which is not for the faint of mind…i am still struggling with this concept of “no self)…

Buddha didn’t care about metaphysics, only suffering. Feels so relevant today when everyone’s anxious AF!
