Spain IS nobody's lifestyle outlet. People Who only wants to live here because of the cost. And then protest about bureaucracy and shopping hours. Don't LOVE our country, only wants to live off It.

Great reflexion. Sadly, America's "walkability" was deliberatedly dismantled many decades ago, never to return. Downtown Pittsburg or Cincinatti looked like Central London in the 40's and 50's, with endless rows of terraced victorian apartment buildings with ground floor shops, cafes, restaurants, and true "rivers" of people walking on the street, chatting and laughing loudly, children playing. Population density was on par with European cities, besides, all major cities in every state had 2 deck buses, street cars, suburban trains. Today, you'll only find parking lots, a bunch of 80's office buildings here and there, a few derelict buildings from that era, surrounded by "reclaimed by nature" areas, and ubiquitous tent villages. As a spaniard that has been in the US many times, I find hard to understand why they decided to destroy all that heritage and traded it for what you have now, that you don't even know who you are or where do you come from anymore. That sense of continuity is what allows a nation to remain a nation through good times and bad times. There's an unbroken link to your ancestors in those buildings, their efforts, their dreams, their passions, the things they loved and what made them proud. Demolishing them was like spitting on their graves and denying future generations of their energy, forever.

Living in Spain and calling the US "America" means that you still learned nothing about the Spanish world.

Measuring one's value by how much work you do for a corporation whose only objective is EXTRACTING value from you and couldn't care less about you is quintessential American stupidity that unfortunately contaminated the rest of the world for the last 80 years.
I like the message of this video: stay home and make it better.

100% accurate. It is not the country, it is YOUR lifestyle.

I completely get it. The housing problems are real. We're also struggling ourselves. But Spain has recently had an increasing population because non-Spanish people move here; the Spanish-born population has shrunk every year since 2017, with a birth rate near 1.2, one of the lowest on earth. Take immigrants out (we don't consider ourselves expats) and Spain isn't crowded. It's emptying, just like Japan. Japan's declining birth rate has serious consequences: the pension system and labor shortage.

The Bank of Spain says the country needs millions more foreign workers to keep funding pensions. And what's gutting the rental market isn't people signing year-long leases and paying taxes. It's the short-term rentals, plus the fact that Spain stopped building after 2008 housing collapse. That's why the government's going after Airbnb, not tax-paying residents.

Just an example: In most of touristic zones of Barcelona you can't take a simple beer at 12 am o at 6pm, because stablisments only accept consumers for lunch or dinner, but who dinner at six pm at Spain, only tourists, not spanish ones. We've had enough, we don't want to lose our lifestyle and that includes lunch and dinner at our usual times. When those tourists oriented restaurants will lose their foreign customers, they owners will to recover local ones, but in my case i will never forget those stablishments what didn't serve me a simple beer or refhesh because they wanted foreigners.

The cost of living including rent or buying a home is due to global inflation. Everyone is looking for affordability but most Spanish immigrants don’t come for the U.S. they come from central and South America. The culture and lifestyle are PLUS for economic refugees.
