  Love seeing friends, especially men, saying "I love you" without a hint of mockery or humor, just genuinely and openly caring for one another. The world needs more love.

  It's odd seeing John talk about his drug problem in such recent language and not like "back in college, I smoked crack and now I'm a square"

  In recovery, I’ve heard it said to newly sober people, “Get a plant, and if it’s still alive after a year, get a dog.”  It’s widely advised to not start a relationship in the first two years of recovery, because getting sober is just the beginning of the real work of finding out why you needed the substance and learning other ways to cope without it.  That takes time and a dedication that is very energy consuming.  I love John and I hope he stays sober and dedicated to healing.

  "Olivia and this baby have saved me from myself" is arguably the scariest thing a recovering addict could say. That is a humongous red flag and I pray this does not end up the way many people fear it might.

  Poor Anna Marie, for your husband of 6 years to go on a bender, leave you seemingly out of nowhere, and announce he’s having his first baby with someone else all within the worst year of our lifetime has to be crushing. Hopefully everyone involved moves on and finds healing.

  The hypocrisy of the war on drugs is on full display here. If you're a rich cocaine addict your friends organize an intervention, you go to rehab, and then maybe you get to talk about it as a humorous story on a comedy talk show. If you're a poor cocaine addict you go to jail, then live with the stigma of being an ex-con, possibly felon, for the rest of your live.

  Mulaney was sober from 2005 to 2020. He has 15 years of recovery under his belt. Relapse happens but you don’t lose that clean time experience you had. Everyone’s recovery looks different and as a recovering addict I am proud he got up and talked even laughed about it because you have to! It helps remind you how it was and where you are now and where you are going! Well done John!

  “Man fresh out of rehab for substance abuse knocks up girlfriend of only a few months. What could possibly go wrong??” Seriously, as a fan of his work I’m rooting for him, but this whole situation seems messy as hell and could very easily end tragically. The odds aren’t exactly in his favor and it’s highly advised to not make huge decisions like this especially in your first years of recovery. I hope he pulls through but I just have a weird feeling in my gut that this doesn’t end well. Hope I’m wrong…
