I never realized the fan actually does most of the work. I always thought it was mainly the exhaust pushing the plane forward.

Very precise information! Much better than others!

That was more right than most, but why do you have the piston engine , the can combustor and a host of other random imagery of flames hither and yon confusing things? Why are the fan and the low pressure compressor turning in opposite directions when they are on the same shaft? This video finally explains the combustion process only uses part of the air leaving the compressor. The combustor is also film cooled by compressor discharge air that did not participate in combustion, as are the nozzle blades that turn the flow tangentially before the first Hp turbine stage. A great many parts are cooled by bleed air to give them acceptable lives and performance. The GE-90 pushed the very successful state of the art forward in every possible way.<br>I worked on the configuration of the LM-6000 for GE. It is a ground power version of the CF-6-80C2, instead of driving a fan, in this service the LP turbine typically drives an alternator at 3600 RPM, and under the right conditions of temperature and humidity it can generate in excess of 50,000 shaft horsepower. It can be purchased configured to burn several different fuels, typically natural gas, and it also used steam as a coolant and thermodynamic medium as steam has some very attractive properties for use as part of the working fluid. going form cold to full power, the engine grows by about 3/4 of an inch in length. These large airliner engines are amazing machines, perhaps the most highly developed machines in the world. They not only perform at a very, very high level, they are also astonishingly reliable. That is an unusual combination.

not a lot really!just a few hamsters turning a wooden drum at one revolution per minute!responding to a mild electric buzzing noise!I would have assumed!what else could it possibly be?

I tried watching but ever “s” pronounced hurt my ears😅

They are fan jets not just jet engines nearly all the thrust is from the fan not the the jet engine powering the fan
