A century ago, humanity abandoned the land.<br><br>As a mysterious evil swept across the world, the last surviving adults placed their children on boats and rafts and sent them out to sea. Somehow, the water protected them.<br><br>Three generations later, those children have become legends. History has become religion. Language has changed. Fear and superstition govern life on the ocean.<br><br>Protected beneath a machine that keeps them constantly drenched in rain, two young explorers return to the forbidden land. Zach is convinced that "aminals" still exist on the surface. To prove it, he must challenge everything his people believe about the world beyond the sea.<br><br>Rain Machine is a standalone proof-of-concept short film set within a much larger mythology. Like the tip of an iceberg, only a small part of that world is shown on screen.<br><br>We'd love to hear your theories and interpretations.

The first few minutes look like a Monty Python skit.

I loved this production. Very well made and entertaining. The end was amusing. A couple of turkeys looking at another couple of turkeys.

Something aobut this reminded me so much of Monty Python. All that was missing were the Knights of Ni and a killer rabbit.

Loved it! Love the world building, the outfits of those sea guys, the design of the machine, and the scary atmosphere of the land to match the perception the characters have of it, since they would propably die on it without water. Also, the relation between the two is interesting! I like how one is unsure but believes because he has faith, while the other just follows his guts and is only superficially supportive of his friend, even though he actively needs him to survive. I'm unsure of the ending, it feels a bit silly and abrupt compared to the ominous build up of the movie, but the way I see it, it shows the two chatacters aren't that different: one has faith in something etheral, a god maybe, and the other has faith in that mysterious animal he seems so excited about, only to realise at the end it was not worth getting into the situation they ended up in. It feels similar to conspiracy theorists or people who claims to have seen ufos, when the explanation for what they've seen is probably very silly. The character risked his and his friend's lives for a grand belief that actually disappointed the both of them. I also like how the "religious" guy believed in his friend the whole time, and started doubting when he didn't pray genuinely. Faith only works if you truely believe, he didn't feel confident enough in the success of the mission, and that doubt led him to sabotage it. But on the other hand, the other guy took too much risks following his blind faith for the animal. When is it too much or not enough faith? When is faith a good enough reason to take risks? How far can you extend your faith to someone else, and will that person truely share your faith? How valuable and usefull is it to ask someone else to pray with you, or ask someone else to follow you on a risky adventure without being confident? Not to get to deep lmao but I think there's a bunch of interesting questions to ask here. As I said though, I do think the ending is a bit silly, it feels like not enough consequences for that conflict, it's abrupt, but knowing this is part of a bigger story, I'm curious to see more!
