  As a foster mother and later an adoptive mother I've always felt that young parents like Emily should be offered a foster home for her and her baby together. She's a little girl herself and needs to be mentored and given an out from her abusive, controlling partner.

  If feel so bad for Emily. She'd never would have wound up pregnant at 17 with a much older, obviously dysfunctional and aggressive man if she'd had a healthy, normal upbringing. Can't imagine what her childhood was like.

  Matthew said he’d had 4 other children taken away (thank goodness).  He also sent the social worker over 2000 phone messages! Dangerous, really dangerous  man.

  The guy who doesn't think he's "controlling" creeps me TF out. One of those guys who thinks it's okay to beat your wife if she gets out of line. 😑

  I got on a plane with my 2 babies and FLED while my abuser was at work. He is an evil human being. I left EVERYTHING BEHIND. We flew across the country to my mom's farm and I never looked back! Sometimes you have to remove the abuser or you will lose your babies. Leaving was the Best decision I ever made

  They made the absolute right decision with Emily and Matthew. I am sorry but the fact that Emily refused to give up Matthew for own daughter shows she's not ready yet to be responsible for a dog let alone another human being.

  I adopted a three week old baby in 1986. His birth mother had been drunk basically for the first 4 months of her pregnancy. His father and I gave him a loving home, and tried our very best to be supportive. He began drinking heavily and taking drugs at age 12. We took him to therapists doctors  and even a child psychiatrist. He was diagnosed with fetal alcohol effect. He became increasingly violent and actually threatened to kill me. His father was away quite a bit and I was quite frankly terrified of him. My husband and I are now divorced. My son is 34 years old now and a homeless meth addict. Despite all of the hardships all three of us have faced I love my son with all my heart. I just hope he has a chance to get clean and sober and live a decent life. He knows he can count on me. That is all anyone can ask.  Every child deserves a loving home. I tried my very best but it was not good enough. Thank you for reading this.

  Why did they not connect Emily with resources for domestic violence victims? This was extremely sad. If she could escape her abuser she could have a chance at being an excellent mother.
