She fluently speaks 4 languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish). Her first language is Italian because she's born in Belgium but spent the first years of her life with her mother family in Sicily. Then she moved back to Belgium at 8 years old, and French became her day-to-day language. Oh, and she sing in 15 languages ^^

When you hear a song of a different language and it doesn’t matter if it’s translated, that’s when you know the artist knows what they’re doing.

Lara has two native languages: French, from her Belgian father, and Italian, from her Sicilian mother. She was born in Belgium but spent her early years in Sicily, then grew up in Belgium. Her family and close friends also included Spanish and English speakers. She is therefore fluent in these four languages, as well as Quebec French, Sicilian Italian, and Neapolitan Italian. She also has a basic knowledge of other languages.

Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar.
The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her.

It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. of course Luciano Pavarotti, and even … Metallica 😜).

But for many, Lara's version from the concert From Lara With Love 2000
https://youtu.be/BP2KnLemT78 is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla.

I was told that Luciorr Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it.

For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also sicilian. She also as been living there for the past couple of years since the end of 2022.

One of the things I love about Lara, which I think really separates her from all other vocalists besides her amazing voice, is that she is fearless. She sings unapologetically, and it comes across as totally sincere.

Thanks, John, for this reaction! I truly enjoy all of your Lara Fabian videos! Just to give you the background you were asking about: Lara spent her early childhood in Sicily, so her very first language was Italian. She later returned to Belgium, where she began school in French. Lara has said herself that French is the language in which she feels most confident, but her Italian is just as strong, and as you’ve noticed, her English is excellent. She is one of the greatest artists of our time — and certainly my favourite.

I have heard this song so often and in so many styles (it's often chosen by singers for auditions) - but I dare to say that Lara's is the one that impressed me most. Power and emotions perfectly regulated. Can't be any better. 💖🎶

The best interpretation of this song. She is wonderfull in her art because she is unapologetic, she is free, she is authentic, natural.

What can I say, what can I say, what can I say... I've listened to it thousands of times and it still gives me the same chills. What a masterful performance. Lara is simply extraordinary. Another level in this musical sphere.

In 1921, Enrico Caruso was the GOAT (Greatest Of All Tenors) at the Met in NYC. Skip to 1986 and songwirter Lucio Dalla had is boat break and stayed at a resort on the Gulf of Sorriento, where the owner tells him that the suite he is stayiing in is where Caruso spent his last days, so he wrote this song. Lara sings it from the view of the young wife, who is recounting the story of how Caruso summarixed his life, before dying of sepsis, blood poisoning, "in the veins you know."
