I am a retired Forester as well as firefighter. I have been stalked up close, 25 feet away, by a full grown male Cougar. My advice. Don't turn your back on the cat. Maintain eye contact. Back away slowly. Don't run. It could save your life.

PS. I did see the same cat again. Same large tract of mature timber I had been surveying a couple previous days. Working my last data collection point. 35 to 45 minutes. Finishing up. There was that big cat. Laying on the ground. Watching me. It stood up. Marked it's territory. Spraying a tree. Walked away.

Thank you for this video, I have hiked that trail since 1975, camped in the same spot in those same conditions. Yes, that is heaven.

My neck of the woods! Mt. Hood National Forest is where I found what I call a bigfoot bathroom. I took pics eith my brand new $600 phone then proceeded to lose my phone. We hiked through alternating bands of marsh and forest. Tried to retrace our steps but never found it. Biggest piles of poop Ive ever seen in different stages of decomposition from fresh with flies still on it to fuzzy mold to dry and crusty. Size of a coke can and bigger. Looked like giant human poops. Cant wait for your Oregon Bigfoot video!

My all time favorite thing to do back in the late 70’s early 80’s!! Solo backpacking. And in the rain forests…😊 Nothing more peaceful than that. Smart to be on a trail that has some small amount of traffic. That way if anything happens you know someone will eventually come along. And you have your radio.

You started this video saying how awkward it was on the trail for you. Welcome to Oregon, bother!

Also, I ran after a mountain lion. I was hiking near Triangle lake when I had my encounter. It was mid summer, supper hot, and I went to hike solo. After an hour I took off all my clothes and it felt so good.
On my way back is when the lion walked up onto the trail in front of me about 100 feet.
I was froze. I shouted hey! And it stopped and looked at me. For an undetermined amount of time we watched each other. Being to being. It was perfect. And then something in me said to run at it! So I charged him. Full Dragon born mode. He ran away, and i ran all the back to the trail head and fell to my knees to thank the good spirits.
I will never forget that moment in heaven.
