I read this book when I was going through one of the darkest moments of my life. I was having thoughts of ending things. That is when I saw a post about this book on reddit and I had no idea what type of book it is and i had zero expectations. I just bought one and started reading it I finished it in 2 days. A lot of people say it's not great it's not revolutionary people can say whatever they want but this book has literally saved my life it started a wheel of thought in my mind and it gave some hope for the future which is the fuel that still sustains me.

I do somewhat think the comment of “you have to be in another country” to be able to write is not necessarily wrong for this authors experience but it gives me this thought that I really hope to see more breakthrough middle class authors who can speak on a writing experience that more people can relate to. I could be wrong but I imagine that this niche is actually the target audience of this channel, besides avid readers.

I’d love to hear from an author who had a day job while writing a novel that can speak on being present in office dynamics and watching power struggles play out, getting inspiration during a commute, cancelling plans because you’re in a state of flow and need to finish a chapter. I think this is a valid writing experience and it makes me wonder if these kinds of authors ever get platformed.

What encapsulates what he says is be authentic and write from the heart. Exactly my thinking.

It’s inspiring to hear an author thinking about the story being true to themselves and not being swayed by not being literary or commericial enough. Just writing a good story.

I strongly believe it is not necessary to travel in order to be a great writer!

Thank you for sharing this interview. It’s fascinating to hear about a writer’s journey and creative process. Every writer is unique and it’s important not to compare ourselves to other writers and not put ourselves under pressure to produce something of value. Our book will be finished when it’s finished.

@1:39 Yes! Too many ideas that you are not sure will work. That's me 😂😂😂 and then boom in in the grocery store and the knot unravels and I have to forget everything I'm shopping for and write it all down. 20 mins standing in one spot typing terribly on my phone 😂😂

His philosophy is the polar opposite of many ideas expressed in RF Kuang’s interview. She’s all about doing it “right” or “perfectly.” He’s all about authenticity and trusting yourself to be enough. He’s such an inspiration.

I absolutely loved The Midnight Library and after watching this, I absolutely adore Matt. His story about getting diagnosed with ADHD and later with Autism. Then, realizing later that maybe in that book about the alien, he actually was describing the feeling of going through life with Autism got to me 😢 What an inspiring and strong person.
