  I’m a full on BMW guy but I just wanted to let you know how outstanding I found this video given you have such a low subscriber count. Genuinely very interesting information. I’ve thought about grabbing an S5 B8 with the 4.2 and a manual box but was aware of exactly those issues being a thing and a complete engine out job. Good stuff, thank you!

  Thanks for the video! My S4 Cab is sitting at 111,000mi. I have records of RS4 guides and tensioners being installed in 2014 when the car was at 55k. I also have a pretty severe valve cover leak, I have been looking for some of the plastic valve covers that came on the allroads to replace mine with. Love your channel, thanks for your enthusiasm for these old beasts!

  I have a B8.5 RS5 with a later iteration of this engine. Fortunately, that comes with metal tensioners, but still, at some point I'll probably need to do the chains (it's at around 80k miles now). And I'll definitely need to pay somebody to do it because I absolutely do not have the space to practice and then do this myself, haha. But yeah, honestly, if the chains were at the front, this engine family would be far less infamous and the job would be relatively straightforward (yeah I know they're on the back because of space constraints and not just for shits and giggles). Regardless, they do vroom really bloody well. Just hit the rev limiter (~8,400 rpm in mine) last weekend on a road trip. It's glorious.

  If you’re looking to do chains or anything else internal do not by from JHM, look at buying from AMtuned instead

  This engine has given me multiple nightmares the past few months. Tensioners have been my problem. Took engine out 3 times in past 8 months. First it was tensioner. Then rods lol. She’s been going strong the last 4 months after acc sitting down and watching a tutorial 😂

  The 5V BCY 4.2T that came in the C5 RS6 is the more stout version of these motors..yes, it still has chain guide issues but it is a LOT LESS LIKELY! I have had 3 versions of this motor (one being the non-turbo) and they have all been stout. Sold my last RS6 with 178k miles and the guide went at 234k miles cuz the new owner neglected it……just picked up my second C5 RS6 and im in all the way now. <br><br>LOVE THESE MOTORS!!! FEARS ONLY LEAD TO GOOD TIMES YALL!!! DONT SELL IT, FIX IT!!!! KEEP ENJOYING IT!!!!! <br>(I will never get rid of mine again lol)

  Pulled this engine 6 times on the same car I can do it blind folded at this point. Currently doing a 3.0 on an a8 and it’s a lot harder to do than this car/engine. Also if you have cam codes dont automatically assume it’s the timing, check the vvt solenoid by putting 12volts to it. You can get a used one from a vw toureg you just need to extend the plug to it

  I would compression test it before making the decision to do the timing. Then you need to decide if you want the block to be sleeved. Then you ask if all that is worth it to just be N/A 🤔

  Amazing video man, I&apos;ve had a B8.5 RS5 with this engine, just way more touched up, and it was great, but still does need some of these things done. Sold that because I didnt want to deal with the headaches later on. Then bought a B5 S4, so I guess I&apos;ll have more, but I&apos;m currently building it with RS6 turbos. Keep up the content man!
